Favorite Stitches by Brenda Hart The majority of the stitch patterns diagrammed in this book can be found in a book, on a building, on a floor, or on a wall somewhere. Are you an intermediate embroiderer who yearns to branch out into new techniques? I have never read the original version of this book, but quickly appreciate the fact that they have updated this book. Many books are "re-cycled" and inexpensive in book stores or through websites. With forty-seven different beard stitches there is sure to be one for you!

Even worse, once you find it how do you make it the size you want. I especially enjoyed the section on design - what to look for a good pattern or how to design your own. I love this book! The Needlepoint Book is the one book to own on the topic. Suzy's Mini Stitches by Suzy Murphy This book offers a wide variety of mini stitches including straight stitches, cross stitches, diagonal stitches, round and square stitches, and pattern stitches.

You'll find sections on: choosing the right project - transferring designs - left-handed needlepoint - finishing techniques - cleaning - and more. There are three collections of needlework books out there that are excellent additions to the well-rounded needlework library and that will help you in your embroidery pursuits, no matter what your skill level. Sandra Arthur, Duo Designs, The second half teaches you about the basics of color and design - and includes instructions for designing a custom project. Each section is pretty comprehensive as well. Needlework teachers would like to impart all of these bits of knowledge in each class, but this is impossible.
